What is a Resource Center?
A Resource Center is a location within a school in which identified students receive specialized instruction in the areas of integrated language arts and mathematics according to their needs and learning styles. The center is staffed by a highly qualified and trained special education teacher and assigned paraprofessionals who work under her direction. Franklin Township School has three, sometimes four, resource centers-one for students in kindergarten through 2nd grade, one for students in 3rd through 5th grades, and one or two in the Middle School for grades 6th through 8th.
Our Resource Centers use the same books and teaching materials that are used in our general education classrooms as well as many specialized materials and teaching techniques. Our teachers remain in close contact with the general education teachers to ensure a consistency in educational experiences for every student in our school.
The State of New Jersey has specific regulations for special education programs; these regulations can be viewed at http://www.nj.gov/education/code/current/title6a/chap14.pdf .
